The Natural Hair Industry Convention

Posted on November 07 2014

I've been a professional in the natural hair industry for almost 8 years now, as I was selling to family and friends via word of mouth since 2007. Never have I been a part of a platform that brought together industry leaders and pioneers like this. To be honest, I didn't know much of the history behind the natural hair industry before meeting Diane Bailey in August.

                                Diane Bailey sharing profound wisdom!

There is now a NATURAL HAIR textbook by Milady and Diane Bailey wrote it! Powerful.
When I say there's nothing new under the sun, there truly is nothing new under the sun- as so eloquently presented by pioneer Tulani Kinard. These women have been braiding and nurturing naturally curly hair for over 40 years!

Tulani's daughter has followed in her footsteps!
They spoke of their struggles to succeed in the industry, their ups and downs, their moments when life and family took the front seat. They even gave honor and kudos to the changes and inroads we're making in the "new generation" of natural hair- from the bloggers, to the stylists, to the DIY Youtubers.

One key piece that resonated with me was the notion that each of us have a critical role to play. Everything that we do pertaining to hair, affects someone's crown. We're all queens, and our crown is much more than a means to show off beautiful hair. Our crown energetically grounds us! As if that wasn't deep enough, Tulani reminded us that we're all influencers; our institutions ( blogger, stylist, product maker) play a critical role in building our community. We all have a role to do, what's yours?

This event is only the beginning of a movement; a coalition that unifies us and strengthens our industry collectively. If you're a blogger, stylist, product manufacturer, distributor, etc., then you need to reach out to the Natural Hair Industry Convention and decide how YOU will participate in the formation of our coalition. This industry is Uniquely Ours, own your piece!
